Dec 02, 2009

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday recalled defenseman Jakub Kindl from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The 22-year-old Kindl, who was re-signed by Detroit to a three-year contract in the offseason, shows 63 points (10-53—63) and 176 penalty minutes in 175 career games with Grand Rapids. A native of Sumperk, Czech Republic, Kindl has tallied 12 points (1-11—12) and 16 PIM through 19 games with the Griffins this season. The 2009 AHL All-Star Game participant has earned six points (1-5—6) in his last five games, including a three-assist outing on Nov. 21 at Toronto.

Following the first regular-season recall of his career, Kindl will be available to make his NHL debut and become the 107th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL on Thursday, when Detroit hosts the Edmonton Oilers at 7 p.m. on Fox Sports Detroit.
