GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Bob Kaser, the radio voice of the Grand Rapids Griffins, will handle the play-by-play broadcast Tuesday of the Detroit Red Wings' game on Fox Sports Detroit under difficult circumstances.

The veteran broadcaster will fill for Ken Daniels, the Red Wings' veteran announcer whose 23-year-old son, Jamie, passed away on Dec. 7.

It will be Kaser's first TV broadcast with the Red Wings. Matt Shepherds of FSD filled in previously.

"I'm flattered and honored to be considered to do this," Kaser said, praising the skills of Daniels. "But the circumstances are just horrible. Let's call it what it is. So it will be a tough deal to get through, no question."

Kaser, in his 36th year as a broadcaster and 17th with the Griffins, just completed his first stint with the Red Wings' radio team. He handled pay-by-play for nine games during an illness to Ken Kal.

The heavy load has forced Kaser to miss five Griffins' games this season - "or more than 17 years combined," he said.

Kaser, who is also vice president of community relations with the Griffins, expects to return to regular duties when the Griffins play at Chicago on Thursday.
