JANIK RETURNS TO GRIFFINS

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Friday assigned defenseman Doug Janik to the Grand Rapids Griffins, who subsequently assigned defenseman Bryan Rufenach to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.

Janik, 31, has appeared in all 53 games for the Griffins this season, sitting second among the team’s defenseman with 25 points (7-18—25). In his season debut with the Red Wings on Tuesday, the Agawam, Mass., native was a plus-two while logging 18:14 in Detroit’s 5-2 win at Columbus. Janik has skated in 182 career NHL contests, notching 18 points (3-15—18) and 148 penalty minutes.

Rufenach, who was recalled by Grand Rapids on Thursday, returns to the ECHL, where he is tied for third among the league’s defensemen with 28 points (11-17—28) in 48 games. The 22-year-old defenseman has one assist in three games with the Griffins this season.

Janik is expected to be in the lineup tonight when the Griffins host the Rochester Americans. Grand Rapids will also be in action versus the Western Conference-leading Oklahoma City Barons on Saturday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Hamilton to take on the Bulldogs at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
