GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday recalled defenseman Doug Janik from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Janik, 31, has appeared in each of Grand Rapids’ 53 games this season, ranking second among the team’s defensemen with 25 points (7-18—25) and leading the Griffins with a plus-16 rating that places fourth among all AHL blueliners.
Buffalo’s third choice (55th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Janik has recorded 18 points (3-15—18) in 181 career NHL contests with Detroit, Montreal, Dallas, Tampa Bay and Buffalo. He logged seven games with the Red Wings last season and has contributed two assists in 20 appearances with Detroit since 2009. Janik will be available to make his season debut with the Wings tonight when they visit Columbus at 7 p.m.
Grand Rapids, winner of three straight games, will conclude a busy home stretch this weekend by hosting the Rochester Americans on Friday and the AHL-leading Oklahoma City Barons on Saturday. Both games are at 7 p.m., and tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.
