INSANA ASYLUM
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Wednesday signed defenseman Jon Insana to a professional tryout.
Insana, 25, played five games with the Griffins this season prior to his Nov. 4 release, going scoreless with a plus-three rating and four penalty minutes. Hes since appeared in six games with the Muskegon Fury of the United Hockey League, showing four assists and a plus-six rating.
A four-year standout at Michigan State (1998-2002), Insana logged one assist in eight games with Grand Rapids in 2004-05 and capped off the campaign by helping the Fury capture a UHL championship.
Insana will be available to the Griffins this Friday when they begin a stretch of five games in six days by hosting the Cleveland Barons at 7 p.m.
