GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Monday assigned forwards Mitch Callahan, Landon Ferraro, Tomas Nosek, Kevin Porter and Teemu Pulkkinen and defensemen Nick Jensen and Alexey Marchenko to the Grand Rapids Griffins. In addition, Detroit released forward Jeff Hoggan from his professional tryout, returning him to Grand Rapids.

Callahan, Ferraro, Hoggan, Pulkkinen, Jensen and Marchenko were all members of the Griffins’ 2013-14 roster, while Nosek, a native of Pardubice, Czech Republic, begins his North American career after being signed to a two-year entry-level contract by the Red Wings on June 14. Porter, a veteran of 206 NHL games, was signed to a one-year contract by Detroit on July 1 after earning 36 points (19-17—36) in 50 games with the Rochester Americans last season.

Grand Rapids will commence the AHL’s regular season with its home opener against the Lake Erie Monsters this Friday at Van Andel Arena, kicking off its 19th campaign overall, 14th as a member of the American Hockey League and 13th as the primary affiliate of the Red Wings.
