ICING ON THE (WEDDING) CAKE
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Todd Bush and Tina Bronkema of Holland, Mich., will exchange wedding vows before thousands of fans during the first intermission of the Grand Rapids Griffins’ game against the Texas Stars this Friday, Feb. 18 at Van Andel Arena.
“Vows at the Van,” presented by Siegel Jewelers, will feature a hockey-flavored ceremony at center ice. Many elements of the couple’s nuptials are being provided by Griffins partners, including YoChef Catering (catering gift certificate), River House Condominiums (weekend luxury condo stay), Crescent Street Floral (flowers) and Siegel Jewelers (wedding bands).
After the game, the happy couple will receive a horse-drawn carriage ride from Grand Carriages to Peppino’s Downtown Grille & Pizzeria Sports Lounge, where fans are encouraged to join them for a toast.
Todd and Tina met on an Internet dating site nine years ago after they had both lost their spouses to cancer. Their first face-to-face meeting came at the Rivertown Crossings Mall in Grandville, where Tina invited Todd to a Griffins game (his first-ever hockey game). She also invited him to a cancer caregivers’ support meeting at Gilda’s Club in Grand Rapids, and their relationship blossomed.
Three years ago, Todd proposed to Tina at a Griffins game in front of their adult children (his two daughters and her son), and they’ll come full circle by exchanging their vows at center ice on Friday.
Friday’s ceremony will mark the first wedding at a Griffins game since March 29, 2005, when Steve Wegleitner and Jodie Larson of Zimmerman, Minn., tied the knot.
