
HOWARD RETURNS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Friday assigned goaltender Jimmy Howard to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
The 21-year-old Howard was recalled by the Red Wings on Wednesday and served as Chris Osgoods backup during Detroits 4-3 overtime loss to Edmonton last night. The rookie from Maine has appeared in two games with Grand Rapids this season, showing a 1-0-1 record with a 3.38 GAA and a 0.905 save percentage.
Howard is expected to start for the Griffins tonight when they host the Syracuse Crunch at 7 p.m.
In other news today, Grand Rapids released defenseman Jon Insana from his pro tryout. He will join the Muskegon Fury of the UHL.
