HELLO DANIEL, FAREWELL SEBASTIEN
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday assigned goaltender Daniel Larsson to the Grand Rapids Griffins and reassigned defenseman Sebastien Piche (pee-SHAY) from the Griffins to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.
Larsson, 23, was summoned by the Red Wings for the third time in the last week on Tuesday and has served as the backup to Jimmy Howard in Detroit’s last three games. Larsson’s five-game winning streak with the Griffins, during which he’s posted a 1.77 goals against average, a 0.945 save percentage (154-163) and one shutout, ties his personal high set between Dec. 12-30, 2008.
Piche, 21, is scoreless with four penalty minutes in six games with the Griffins this season. Signed as a free agent by Detroit last spring, the La Sarre, Quebec, native made his professional debut with Grand Rapids on Oct. 15 at Texas. He logged his final Quebec Major Junior Hockey League campaign with Rimouski last season, where he was named a Second-Team All-Star and led all QMJHL defensemen with 23 goals, 72 points and five game-winning goals (tied), while standing second with 49 assists and 238 shots.
The Griffins will complete their four-game homestand on Friday when they host the first-ever visit by the Texas Stars at 7 p.m.
