GRIFFINS TO BEGIN CUP DEFENSE AGAINST HEAT
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The fourth-seeded Grand Rapids Griffins will begin defense of their 2013 Calder Cup championship by playing the fifth-seeded Abbotsford Heat in the best-of-five Western Conference Quarterfinals.
The Griffins, who concluded the regular season tonight with a 4-3 shootout loss at Lake Erie, will visit the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre on Friday and Saturday before returning to Van Andel Arena on Wednesday, April 30 for the first of as many as three straight home games. The complete schedule is as follows:

The Griffins, who have never faced the Heat in the postseason, posted a 3-1 record in the season series against Abbotsford. Grand Rapids split a pair at Van Andel Arena on Jan. 17 (3-0 W) and Jan. 18 (2-3 L) before earning a sweep in British Columbia on Feb. 28 (4-3 SOW) and March 1 (5-2 W).
Defenseman Chad Billins, an integral part of the Griffins' championship team as a rookie last season, has established himself as the Heat's top-scoring blueliner, posting 41 points (10-31--41) and a plus-5 rating in 64 games entering tonight's action.
