Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Saturday signed left wing Ryan Barnes to a professional tryout.

In 69 games last season, he notched 19 points (6-13-19) and tied for the team lead with 175 PIM. Barnes also made his NHL debut with the Red Wings in 2003-04, going scoreless in two games.

With Peter Vandermeer serving the back end of a two-game AHL suspension, Barnes will be in the Griffins lineup tonight when they host the San Antonio Rampage at 7:30. In celebration of Halloween, the Griffins will wear special orange and black jerseys that will be offered to fans in a post-game auction to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters.
