GRIFFINS OFFER FREE TICKETS TO UNEMPLOYED

Oct 15, 2009

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Hundreds of local unemployed workers and their family members will receive free tickets to the Grand Rapids Griffins’ home game on Sunday, Oct. 25, thanks to the new “Griffins Give Back” program.

“Despite the difficult economic times these last few years, we’ve been fortunate to realize three straight seasons of increased attendance,” said Tim Gortsema, senior vice president of business operations for the Griffins. “That’s a real testament to West Michigan, but we know that many who have supported the Griffins loyally through the years are unable to do so at this time due to unemployment. This is simply a way for us to thank them for being a fan. We hope they’ll enjoy a game on us.”

Through this first initiative of “Griffins Give Back,” a minimum of 1,000 lower bowl tickets will be distributed through the two Grand Rapids offices of Michigan Works! (1560 Leonard NE and 622 Godfrey SW). Beginning next Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 9 a.m. and continuing while supplies last, those who visit Michigan Works! in person and present both proof of unemployment and a valid Michigan photo I.D. can receive up to four free tickets to the Griffins game on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. versus the Abbotsford Heat.

In addition, special “Super Sunday” pricing promotions will be available at arena concession stands to all Oct. 25 attendees, as Pepsi products and Cole’s Breadsticks will each cost just $1 from 4-6 p.m.

Other “Griffins Give Back” initiatives will be introduced later this season.
