GRIFFINS GET GALVIN
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Thursday signed defenseman Tom Galvin to a professional tryout.
Galvin, 30, spent the majority of the previous three seasons (2006-09) with the Griffins, totaling 39 points (3-36—39), 118 penalty minutes and a plus-19 rating in 187 games. He registered an AHL career-high 17 points (1-16—17) and tied for the club lead with a plus-10 rating in 2007-08, before tallying 15 points (2-13—15) and a plus-two rating in 71 appearances last season.
The Staten Island, N.Y., native and Notre Dame alum, who logged six scoreless games with the AHL’s Providence Bruins earlier this month, has contributed 12 points (4-8—12) in 20 games for the IHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks this season.
Galvin will be available to play tonight when the Griffins host the Hamilton Bulldogs in their 13th Annual New Year’s Eve Extravaganza. Game time is 7 p.m.
