GRIFFINS ADD DETROIT PROSPECT TVRDON
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday signed left wing Marek Tvrdon (T’VEHR-duhn) to an amateur tryout.
A native of Nitra, Slovakia, Tvrdon skated in 60 games for the Vancouver Giants this season, leading all WHL rookies with 74 points (31-43—74) and adding 62 penalty minutes. The 6-2, 217-pound forward also recorded six points (3-3—6) in six playoff games. Tvrdon represented Slovakia at this year’s World Junior Championships in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta, tallying four points (3-1—4) and 14 penalty minutes in six contests. The 19-year-old was selected in the fourth round (115th overall) by Detroit in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
With just seven games left in the regular season, the Griffins will host the Texas Stars tonight at 7 p.m. and the Toronto Marlies on Friday at 7 p.m. as they look to make up ground in the playoff race. Tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.
