GOALTENDER SWAP
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Friday recalled goaltender Petr Mrazek from Grand Rapids and reassigned goaltender Jared Coreau to the Griffins from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.
Mrazek, 21, has appeared in five contests with the Griffins this season, yielding a 2-2-1 record, a 3.14 goals against average and a 0.891 save percentage. During his rookie campaign with the team last year, Mrazek posted a 23-16-2 record, a 0.916 save percentage and a 2.33 GAA. The Ostrava, Czech Republic, native backstopped Grand Rapids to its first-ever Calder Cup championship, producing a 15-9 record, a 2.31 GAA, a 0.916 save percentage and a franchise-record four shutouts during the playoffs. Mrazek also became the second goalie in history to earn a victory in his NHL, AHL and ECHL debuts in one season.
Coreau, 21, made his professional debut with Grand Rapids in a 3-4 overtime loss to the Toronto Marlies on Oct. 5. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound netminder has appeared in two games with the Walleye this season, producing a 0-1-1 record, a 3.49 GAA and a 0.877 save percentage. Prior to being signed to a three-year entry-level contract by Detroit, Coreau spent three seasons with Northern Michigan University, where he posted a 15-19-4 record, a 2.70 GAA, a 0.919 save percentage and one shutout after starting in all 38 games during his junior year.
Mrazek will be available to play tonight when the Wings face the Calgary Flames at 9 p.m. EDT at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The Griffins (5-2-1-1) will hit the road this weekend, battling the Lake Erie Monsters for the first time this season tonight at 7:30 p.m. and the Rockford IceHogs on Sunday at 5 p.m. EST.
