FINN WHILE IT LASTED
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday recalled center Valtteri Filppula from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Assigned to Grand Rapids one week ago, Filppula saw this season’s first action with the Griffins last weekend. In Friday’s 4-2 win at Toronto, he registered an assist in his eighth straight regular season appearance with the Griffins (dating to last season), setting a franchise record for longest assist streak. He then scored a goal in Saturday’s 4-3 loss to Omaha to extend his point streak to 10 games, equaling the sixth-longest run in team history.
Filppula, who made his NHL debut last season to become the first Finnish player ever to play for Detroit, will be available for action tonight when the Red Wings visit San Jose at 10:30.
