DETROIT SIGNS NOSEK TO CONTRACT EXTENSION
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Friday signed center Tomas Nosek to a two-year contract extension.
Originally signed to a contract by Detroit in June 2014, Nosek, 23, played in 70 games games with the Grand Rapids Griffins this season and ranked sixth on the team in goals (15), tied for ninth in points (15-15—30) and tied for sixth in plus/minus (plus-13). He registered one goal (1-0—1) in nine games during the 2016 Calder Cup Playoffs as the Griffins advanced to the Central Division Finals.
A 6-foot-2, 210-pound forward, Nosek became the 152nd Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL when he debuted in Detroit’s 3-2 win at Nashville on Dec. 26. Nosek registered two penalty minutes while appearing in six games for the Red Wings during the 2015-16 campaign.
During his first season as a Griffin in 2014-15, Nosek appeared in 55 games with Grand Rapids and tied for tops in the league with a plus-30 rating. He also ranked eighth on the team in points (11-23—34) and fourth in assists (23). In the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs, Nosek accounted for seven points (2-5—7) in 12 contests.
Prior to his North American debut, the Pardubice, Czech Republic, native competed in 129 games for Pardubice HC in his home country from 2011-14 and accrued 62 points (24-38—62).
