DETROIT MAKES FINAL CUTS, MRAZEK AND NYQUIST RETURN
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Monday assigned 10 players to the Grand Rapids Griffins, including forwards Mitch Callahan, Luke Glendening, Calle Jarnkrok, Tomas Jurco, Gustav Nyquist, Teemu Pulkkinen and Riley Sheahan; defensemen Adam Almquist and Ryan Sproul; and goaltender Petr Mrazek.
Additionally, the Red Wings released forward Jeff Hoggan and defenseman Nathan Paetsch from their professional tryouts, returning them to Grand Rapids, and recalled defenseman Xavier Ouellet and goaltender Jared Coreau.
Grand Rapids concluded its preseason play with a 1-1 record in two neutral-site games against the Lake Erie Monsters on Saturday and Sunday. The Griffins will open their 18th regular season on the road this weekend when they face the Rochester Americans on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7:05 p.m., followed by a game against the Toronto Marlies on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m.
