DETROIT ASSIGNS EMMERTON
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday assigned center Cory Emmerton to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Emmerton, 25, ranks fifth on the Griffins in scoring with 35 points (14-21—35) and 14 penalty minutes in 43 games this season. Detroit’s first choice (41st overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Emmerton has also skated in 18 games with the Wings, notching two points (0-2—2), four PIM and 22 shots on goal. In 260 career games with Grand Rapids, the St. Thomas, Ontario, native has earned 146 points (48-98—146) and 80 PIM, while tallying 21 points (12-9—21) and 22 PIM in 139 career NHL games with Detroit.
The Griffins will hit the road to face the Rockford IceHogs at BMO Harris Bank Center on Friday at 8 p.m. EDT, before returning home to Van Andel Arena for a rematch against the IceHogs on Saturday at 7 p.m. Grand Rapids’ three-in-three will conclude with a road game against the Milwaukee Admirals on Sunday at 6 p.m. EDT.
