GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Friday recalled defenseman Alexey Marchenko from the Grand Rapids Griffins and assigned defenseman Xavier Ouellet to their AHL affiliate.

Marchenko, 23, ties for second in scoring among Grand Rapids blueliners with 17 points (2-15—17) in 42 games this season and ranks first on the team in plus/minus with a plus-15 rating. A fourth-year pro and native of Moscow, Russia, Marchenko made his North American debut with the Griffins last season and subsequently made his NHL debut with Detroit on Jan. 4, 2014, when he became the 140th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL. During the 2013-14 season, the 6-foot-2, 212-pound defenseman registered 18 points (3-15—18) in 49 games with the Griffins and appeared in one game with the Wings, notching two penalty minutes and a plus-two rating.

Ouellet, 21, has split his second professional season between Grand Rapids and Detroit. The Bayonne, France, native has scored two goals and an assist in 21 games with the Wings this season, tallying his first NHL point (assist) on Nov. 22 at Toronto and his first NHL goal on Nov. 28 at New Jersey. In a matching 21 games with the Griffins, Ouellet has posted eight points (1-7—8) and 16 PIM. The 6-foot, 200-pound defenseman, Detroit’s second choice (48th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, was selected to play in the 2015 AHL All-Star Game but could not due to his recall.

The Griffins will take on the Milwaukee Admirals tonight at the BMO Harris Bradley Center at 8 p.m. EDT before a rematch on Saturday at Van Andel Arena at 7 p.m.
