CROSS LAKE FOES

Dec 29, 2006
MILWAUKEE – Josh Langfeld scored with 39 seconds remaining in regulation forcing overtime, but the Milwaukee Admirals capitalized on an odd-man break during the extra session delivering a 2-1 loss to the Grand Rapids Griffins Friday night at the Bradley Center.

The Griffins will return home tomorrow night to battle with the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7 p.m.

At the conclusion of 40 minutes fans looked up at the scoreboard and witnessed an unusual sight for these two teams considering the past contests this season, a scoreless tie. But the Admirals eventually struck first at 5:02 of the third period when Kevin Klein pulled the trigger from the left point and Ramzi Abid tipped the hasty puck over Jimmy Howard.

With their net empty, the pressure from the Grand Rapids offense paid off with just 39 seconds remaining in regulation as Langfeld tipped a Kyle Quincey wrist shot past Karl Goehring to force overtime.

The Griffins controlled much of the action recording two shots, but the Admirals ended the game on their first scoring chance during a 2-on-1 break. Abid forced a turnover at the blue line and skated in alongside Pat Leahy whom he fed a pass to blast a shot into the mesh from the right dot.

Grand Rapids fell to their foes from across the lake for the fifth time this season out of six games played (1-4-1-0) having yet to defeat them in regulation as their lone win came in shootout fashion.

Howard finished in the crease with 18 saves while Goehring managed 25 on the evening.
