The Griffins' Magic Numbers...
For clinching the Midwest Division (Norman R. (Bud) Poile Trophy): 2 points
For clinching the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference: 10 points
After clinching its first playoff appearance since 2008-09, Grand Rapids now has its sights set on winning its first division title since 2005-06.
The Griffins have been eliminated from contention for both the AHL regular season points championship (Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy) and the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.
Division Clinching Scenarios for Friday, April 19
The Griffins can win the Midwest Division title tomorrow by beating Peoria in their regular season home finale. They can also clinch the division with either:
- A Milwaukee loss in regulation versus Charlotte, or;
- An overtime or shootout loss to Peoria coupled with a Milwaukee OTL/SOL to Charlotte.
If The Season Ended Today...
#3 Grand Rapids would face #6 Rochester in the best-of-five Western Conference Quarterfinals. It would mark the teams' first-ever meeting in the postseason.
The Griffins and Americans met only twice this season, with Grand Rapids winning 4-2 on Dec. 19 at Van Andel Arena and Rochester winning 4-3 on Oct. 19 at the Blue Cross Arena.
