cc13_primary.jpgThe Griffins' Magic Numbers...

For clinching the Midwest Division (Norman R. (Bud) Poile Trophy): 2 points
For clinching the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference: 10 points

Grand Rapids clinched its first playoff appearance since 2008-09 on Saturday, thanks to the point gained in its 4-3 overtime loss to Peoria and Milwaukee's subsequent 3-1 loss to Rockford. The Griffins now have their sights set on winning their first division title since 2005-06.

The Griffins have been eliminated from contention for both the AHL regular season points championship (Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy) and the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

Division Clinching Scenarios

Based on the result of tomorrow's game between Midwest Division rivals Chicago and Milwaukee, the Griffins' magic number for winning the division will be either one point or two points entering their regular season home finale versus Peoria this Friday.

If Milwaukee beats the Wolves on Tuesday, the Griffins would win the division with a victory over Peoria on Friday.

If Chicago beats the Admirals, the Griffins would win the division with an overtime or shootout loss to the Rivermen.

If the Griffins lose in regulation to Peoria, they could still clinch the division pending the results of Friday's Milwaukee/Charlotte and Chicago/Lake Erie contests.

If The Season Ended Today...

#3 Grand Rapids would face #6 Rochester in the best-of-five Western Conference Quarterfinals. It would mark the teams' first-ever meeting in the postseason.

The Griffins and Americans met only twice this season, with Grand Rapids winning 4-2 on Dec. 19 at Van Andel Arena and Rochester winning 4-3 on Oct. 19 at the Blue Cross Arena.
