COREAU RECALLED AND MACHOVSKY REASSIGNED

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday recalled goaltender Jared Coreau from the Grand Rapids Griffins and reassigned goaltender Matej Machovsky (ma-TAY meh-HAWZ-kee) to the Griffins from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.

Coreau, 26, is the reigning AHL Player of the Week after combining for 66 saves in back-to-back road shutouts of the Western Conference-leading Manitoba Moose last Thursday and Saturday. Since Dec. 22, the 6-foot-6 netminder sports a 13-2-3 record along with a 1.92 goals against average and a 0.933 save percentage in 18 appearances.

Now in his fifth season as a professional, Coreau ranks among the AHL’s goaltending leaders this season with 20 wins (T3rd), a 2.47 GAA (14th), a 0.916 save percentage (T13th) and 2092:11 minutes (3rd) in 36 games.

A native of Perth, Ontario, Coreau started all 19 contests of Grand Rapids’ run to the Calder Cup last spring, recording a 2.84 GAA, a 0.909 save percentage and a 15-4 record. In 146 career regular season AHL games all with Grand Rapids since 2013-14, Coreau has an 84-48-10 record to go with a 2.42 GAA and a 0.919 save percentage and 13 shutouts. He ranks fourth all time in franchise history in wins and third in shutouts.

Coreau became the 158th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL when he made his debut with the Red Wings on Dec. 3, 2016 at Pittsburgh. In his first taste of NHL action last season, Coreau posted a 5-4-3 mark, a 3.46 GAA, a 0.887 save percentage and two shutouts in 14 games.

Machovsky, 24, is skating in his first professional season in North America and is the ECHL’s leader in GAA with a 2.02 mark while also placing third with a 0.928 save percentage. He shows an 11-9-1 record with two shutouts in 21 games with the Walleye and has won four of his last six outings.

A native of Opava, Czech Republic, Machovsky played the last four seasons with Plzen HC of the Czech Extraliga. Appearing in 178 games from 2013-17, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound netminder amassed a 94-84-0 record and a 2.23 GAA.

Prior to turning pro, Machovsky played three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Guelph (2010-11) and Brampton (2010-13). He posted a 56-45-13 record and a 2.54 GAA in juniors and was named to the 2011 OHL Second All-Rookie Team after claiming the best goals against average (2.90) by a first-year goaltender.

The Red Wings host the Nashville Predators tonight at 7:30 p.m. Grand Rapids has points in 11 straight games (9-0-0-2) and will host the Chicago Wolves on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to begin a six-game homestand.
