GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Sunday assigned goaltender Jared Coreau to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Coreau, a fifth-year pro, is 20-10-4 with a 2.47 goals against average and a 0.916 save percentage in 36 appearances with the playoff-bound Griffins this season. Coreau is coming off back-to-back shutouts in his last two AHL games (Feb. 15 and 17 at Manitoba) and has not allowed a goal in his last 126:47 of AHL action. He was named the AHL’s Goaltender of the Month for February after compiling a 4-0-2 record, a 1.46 GAA, a 0.951 save percentage and two shutouts in six appearances during the month before being recalled on Feb. 20.

Coreau ranks among the AHL’s goaltending leaders this season in wins (T9th), GAA (16th), save percentage (T15th) and minutes (2092:11, 16th).

Coreau, 26, appeared in seven games with the Red Wings this season and recorded a 4.26 GAA, a 0.867 save percentage and a 0-5-1 mark. The 6-foot-6 netminder made his debut in Detroit last season – becoming the 158th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL – and posted a 5-4-3 mark, a 3.46 GAA, a 0.887 save percentage and two shutouts in 14 games.

A native of Perth, Ontario, Coreau started all 19 contests of Grand Rapids’ run to the Calder Cup last spring, tallying a 2.84 GAA, a 0.909 save percentage and a 15-4 record. In 146 career regular season AHL games all with Grand Rapids since 2013-14, Coreau has an 84-48-10 record to go with a 2.42 GAA and a 0.919 save percentage and 13 shutouts. He ranks fourth all time in franchise history in wins and third in shutouts.

The Griffins continue their five-game road trip on Wednesday when they visit Texas at 8:30 p.m. EDT.
