CAVALRY TO CALGARY
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday announced that the Detroit Red Wings have recalled goaltender Stefan Liv and forwards Darryl Bootland and Evan McGrath. As a result, the Griffins today signed goaltender Ryan Cyr and left wing Mike Watt to professional tryouts.
Liv has appeared in six games with the Griffins during his North American debut, showing a 1-4-1 record with a 3.22 goals against average and a 0.894 save percentage. Bootland has contributed five points (2-3—5) and 37 penalty minutes in 14 games, while McGrath has begun his pro career with four points (1-3—4) in 14 appearances.
Cyr, 22, is in his second pro season and first with the UHL’s Muskegon Fury. He has played in five games this season, posting a 4-1-0 record with a 3.41 GAA and a 0.885 save percentage.
Watt, a former Michigan State Spartan, has totaled 21 points (10-11—21) in 14 games with the Fury this season, ranking third in the UHL scoring race and tying for second in goals. Selected 32nd overall by Edmonton in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, he has played 157 NHL games during his 10-year career, totaling 41 points (15-26—41) for Edmonton, the New York Islanders, Nashville and Carolina.
Cyr and Watt will be available to make their Griffins debuts tonight when the Peoria Rivermen visit Van Andel Arena at 7.
