CAPTAIN GETS 'THE CALL'
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Monday recalled center Matt Ellis from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.
In his fourth season with the club, the Griffins’ captain currently places third on the roster with 19 points in 30 games, while matching Kip Miller with a team-leading 10 goals. Known for his workhorse attitude, Ellis has played a vital role as a top penalty killer for the Griffins and has already notched two shorthanded goals this season, pushing his team-best career total to nine.
Ellis, 25, will be available to make his NHL debut tonight when the Red Wings visit the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7:30 p.m. Should he make an appearance, he will become the 83rd Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL.
