BACK WHERE WE STARTED
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday announced the return of center Darren Helm on assignment from the Detroit Red Wings, as well as the recall of right wing Darren McCarty to their parent club.
Helm, 21, was returned to the Griffins late on Wednesday after logging 14:43 of ice time in the Red Wings’ 3-1 loss to Montreal earlier that evening, marking his third contest with Detroit this season. He currently stands second on Grand Rapids with 18 points (5-13—18), having scored in all but three of the 16 games he’s played for the Griffins this season.
Helm is expected to play tonight when the Griffins host the Chicago Wolves in a 7 p.m. tilt at Van Andel Arena.
McCarty, 36, saw his first action of the season as a Griffin on Wednesday, going scoreless in Grand Rapids’ 3-2 shootout loss at home to Manchester. The 17-year veteran has appeared in 13 games with the Red Wings this season, contributing one goal and 25 penalty minutes.
