BACK TO DETROIT
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Monday recalled left wing Gustav Nyquist from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Nyquist scored a goal in the team’s 5-2 win over the Houston Aeros on Sunday, after being assigned by Detroit earlier in the day. The goal gave him a team-leading 55 points (20-35—55) in 54 games and a share of the franchise record for most points by a rookie. The Halmstad, Sweden, native is also one of seven rookies to score 20 goals and sits just four goals shy of the Griffins’ rookie goals record, owned by Francis Pare and Justin Abdelkader, who each had 24 in 2008-09.
The 22-year-old forward has appeared in seven games with Detroit this season, recording three assists and a plus-two rating. Nyquist recorded points in back-to-back games last week, assisting on the game-winning goal in the Red Wings’ 4-3 win over Los Angeles on Friday and adding another assist in the team’s 3-2 loss to Nashville on Saturday.
The Griffins will finish a season-high five-game road trip on Tuesday when they visit the Texas Stars at 8:30 p.m. EDT. The team will return to Grand Rapids for a pair of home games against the Toronto Marlies at 7 p.m. on Friday and the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.
