GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Friday recalled center Joakim Andersson from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Andersson, 24, ranks fourth on the Griffins with 27 points (10-17—27) in 36 games. A native of Munkedal, Sweden, he has registered 101 points (38-63—101) and 121 penalty minutes in 189 career games with Grand Rapids. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound forward recently became the first Griffin to capture CCM/AHL Player of the Week honors in more than three years, earning the award on Jan. 21 after recording seven points (2-5—7) in two games from Jan. 17-19.
A third-round pick (88th overall) of the Red Wings in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Andersson skated in five games with Detroit last season. He could make his season debut when the Red Wings host Edmonton on Saturday at 2 p.m.
