ANDERSSON, NYQUIST AND PEARCE RETURN

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday assigned forwards Joakim Andersson and Gustav Nyquist and goaltender Jordan Pearce to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Andersson, 24, split the season between Grand Rapids and Detroit, posting 27 points (10-17—27) in 36 AHL games and eight points (3-5—8) in 38 NHL contests. The Munkedal, Sweden, native also skated in 14 postseason contests with the Red Wings, tying for seventh on the team with five points (1-4—5). Andersson, who last skated for the Griffins on Feb. 6, has 101 points (38-63—101) and 121 penalty minutes in 189 career games with the Griffins.

Nyquist, 23, led the Griffins during the regular season with 60 points (23-37—60) in 58 games and landed a spot on the AHL First All-Star Team, finishing 12th overall in league scoring. A native of Halmstad, Sweden, Nyquist also registered six points (3-3—6) in 22 regular season games with Detroit and five points (2-3—5) in 14 playoff contests. The second-year pro shows 122 points (46-76—122) in 122 AHL games.

Pearce, 26, ranks among the Griffins’ all-time goaltending leaders with 73 games played (8th), 3807:06 minutes (9th), 1,738 saves (8th) and four shootout wins (T8th). The Anchorage, Alaska, native sports a 24-29-6 record with a 3.23 goals against average in five seasons with the Griffins. He appeared in 31 games with the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye this season, posting a 15-13-1 record, a 2.76 GAA and two shutouts along with a 2-1 record and 1.95 GAA in four postseason games.

The Griffins trail the Oklahoma City Barons 2-1 in their best-of-seven Western Conference Final series after dropping Game 3 last night. Grand Rapids will remain in Oklahoma City for the series’ next two games on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. EDT before potentially hosting Games 6 and 7 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
