ANDERSSON ASSIGNED TO GRAND RAPIDS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday assigned center Joakim Andersson (YOH-ah-kihm AN-duhr-suhn) to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
The 22-year-old Andersson was recalled by the Red Wings last Tuesday and made his NHL debut that night in Detroit’s 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues, becoming the 123rd alumnus of the Griffins to suit up in an NHL game. He appeared in four games overall, going pointless with a plus-one rating.
A native of Munkedal, Sweden, Andersson has tallied 17 points (8-9—17) in 26 contests with Grand Rapids this season. In 109 career contests with the Griffins, he has recorded 15 goals and 25 assists.
Andersson rejoins the Griffins as they prepare to battle the Abbotsford Heat in back-to-back road games this Friday and Saturday. Both games start at 10 p.m. EST.
