20TH ANNUAL GRIFFINS YOUTH FOUNDATION GOLF CLASSIC
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Join Grand Rapids Griffins alumni, coaches, fans and staff at Egypt Valley Country Club on Monday, Aug. 25 for the 20th annual Griffins Youth Foundation Golf Classic, presented by Meijer and Landmark Aviation.
This marks the sixth consecutive year that the event will be held at the renowned, 36-hole course in Ada, Mich. Following the 10 a.m. shotgun start, golfers will be treated to 18 holes of golf – half of the field on the Ridge course and half on the Valley course – as well as on-course food and refreshments provided by West Side Beer, Pepsi, Leo’s Restaurant, PF Chang's, Peppino’s Pizza and Buffalo Wild Wings. Afterward, golfers will gather in the clubhouse for dinner and a high-end raffle and auction.
Griffins head coach Jeff Blashill, assistant coach Jim Paek, Red Wings forward Luke Glendening and longtime NHLer Mike Knuble are among the celebrities scheduled to participate.
This year’s attendees will once again have a chance to win dozens of prizes, including electronics such as 42” TVs, iPod touches, DVD players, GPS systems and cameras, in addition to golf balls, clubs and bags, a gas grill, round-trip airline and boat/ferry tickets, watches, golf packages, family activities packages and hockey memorabilia.
The golf classic, one of the largest charitable events in West Michigan, raises around $70,000 for the Griffins Youth Foundation and its programs each year and has totaled well in excess of one million dollars for its 19-year history. This support enables nearly 350 kids, many of whom are underprivileged, underserved, at-risk or have other special needs, to participate in the foundation’s programs at no cost.
The foundation offers hockey for first through 12th graders and a girls-only division, while also supporting the Grand Rapids Sled Wings sled hockey team for physically challenged kids and teens. In addition, the foundation provides kids a variety of resources and experiences that promote academic excellence, community involvement and healthy lifestyles. More information about the Griffins Youth Foundation is available at griffinskids.org.
Golf classic registration is now open for individual golfers ($225) and foursomes ($800). Sponsorships start at $1,000, including a tee sponsor and foursome for $1,500. For more information, please click here or call (616) 774-4585 ext. 3027.
