2025-26 Player in Review: Trey Augustine
Goaltender Trey Augustine made his professional debut with the Griffins on April 10 against the Chicago Wolves, collecting 26 saves on 29 shots in a 4-1 defeat. The 21-year-old finished the AHL season with a 0-2-0 record, a 3.39 goals-against average and an. 878 save percentage in 88:34 minutes played across two games.
Prior to joining Grand Rapids, Augustine competed in his junior season at Michigan State University and accumulated a 24-9-1 record with three shutouts, a 2.11 GAA and a .929 save percentage in 34 outings. In addition to being a Hobey Baker Memorial Award finalist, Augustine won the Richter Award, as the best goaltender in college hockey, and was named the Big Ten Goaltender of the Year. The netminder was also named to the Big Ten First All-Star Team and to the First All-American Team, leading the Spartans to a Big Ten regular-season title.
At Michigan State from 2023-26, Augustine amassed a 66-25-7 ledger with nine shutouts, a 2.40 GAA and a .922 save percentage in 99 appearances. In the all-time rankings at MSU, he finished second in save percentage, fifth in GAA, sixth in saves and sixth in wins. As a Spartan, Augustine won three Big Ten regular-season titles (2023-24, 2024-25, 2025-26) and one Big Ten Tournament title (2024-25), in addition to two Big Ten Goaltender of the Year awards (2024-26).
