2025-26 Player in Review: Dominik Shine
Forward Dominik Shine served as a first-year captain of the Griffins and competed in his 10th season with the franchise. Shine showed a career-high 21 goals and a plus-25 rating to go along with 39 points (21-18—39) and 41 penalty minutes in 40 regular-season games. He then added one assist and six penalty minutes in eight postseason outings. In addition to reaching the 20-goal mark for the first time in his career, Shine produced a 20.2 shooting percentage, which tied for fourth among the top 10 single-season efforts in franchise history. He was named the Howies Hockey Tape/AHL Player of the Week for period ending Feb. 15, showing five goals, 13 shots and a plus-six rating in two games in addition to participating in his first-ever AHL All-Star Classic.
On Dec. 7 at the Toronto Marlies, Shine became just the third Griffin to reach 500 games with the franchise, scoring a goal in the process. Shine ranks among the franchise’s all-time career regular-season leaderboard in games played (523, 3rd), goals (96, 3rd), assists (126, 7th), points (222, 4th), penalty minutes (594, 5th), shorthanded goals (6, T5th), game-winners (15, T3rd), unassisted goals (10, T1st) and shots (901, 3rd).
Shine also suited up for a career-best 18 NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings and tallied three goals and seven penalty minutes. He potted his first-career NHL goal on March 8 at the New Jersey Devils, becoming the fifth-oldest player in Red Wings history to score his first-career NHL goal. Shine was named the Red Wings’ 2025-26 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy nominee, given annually to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.
