2023-24 Player in Review: Simon Edvinsson

Defenseman Simon Edvinsson skated in his second season with the Griffins and logged a career-high 30 points (8-22—30), 51 penalty minutes and a plus-five rating in 54 regular-season games. He then posted two points (0-2—2) and six penalty minutes in six postseason outings. For his efforts, the 21-year-old was named to the 2023-24 AHL Top Prospects Team, becoming the first Griffin to be honored on the list that began in the 2022-23 campaign. 

Edvinsson also suited up for a career-best 16 games with the Detroit Red Wings and notched two points (1-1—2), four penalty minutes and an even plus-minus rating.

By the Numbers 

50 – Recorded his 50th assist as a professional during the season opener on Oct. 13 against the Colorado Eagles.  

150 – Collected an assist during his 150th game as a pro on Nov. 15 against the Chicago Wolves.      

1 – Named an AHL All-Star for the first time in his career but did not compete at the event due to rehabbing an injury. 

100 – Skated in his 100th game as a Griffin on March 2 versus the Rockford IceHogs.    

27 – Made his Calder Cup Playoffs debut on April 27 at the Rockford IceHogs, finishing the postseason with two assists in six games.    

1 – Named to the AHL’s Top Prospects Team, becoming the first Griffin to be honored on the list that began in the 2022-23 season.

30 – Accumulated a career-high 30 points and eight goals, beating out his previous highs of 27 points and five goals.  His 30 points and eight goals ranked first on the team among defensemen. 

4 – His three game-winners (Oct. 14 vs. COL, Dec. 1 vs. MIL, Feb. 28 vs. IA) tied for fourth in the AHL among defensemen.     

2 – Scored two goals on the power play, which set a new career best (Oct. 14 vs. COL, Oct. 27 vs. CLE).  

7 – Went on a career-high seven-game point streak from Nov. 18-Dec. 8 (3-7—10).   

5 – Enjoyed five multi-point outings this season, including four games with two assists and one with two goals.   

4 – Accumulated four assists in a two-game span from Nov. 18-24 against the Texas Stars and Manitoba Moose, respectively.   

2 – Registered his first two-goal game in North America on Dec. 1 against the Milwaukee Admirals, earning the game-winner. 

4 – Logged a career-high four-game assist streak from Nov. 18-29 (0-6—6).    

102 – His 102 shots throughout the regular season set a new career best, beating out his previous 76 shots in 2022-23.  

7 – Seven penalty minutes on Jan. 27 against the Belleville Senators set a new career single-game high. 

14 – Enjoyed a 14-game stint with the Detroit Red Wings to close out the regular season. He recorded his first NHL point of the season with an assist on Dec. 27 at the Minnesota Wild and then scored his first goal of the year on April 13 at the Toronto Maple Leafs.
