2023-24 Player in Review: Matt Luff

Right wing Matt Luff skated in his second season with the Griffins and notched 18 points (10-8—18) and 18 penalty minutes in 26 regular-season games. He added one assist and four penalty minutes in five postseason outings. Luff suffered an upper-body injury during the Detroit Red Wings Training Camp that forced him to miss the first 45 contests for Grand Rapids.

By the Numbers 

45 – He made his season debut on Feb. 21 against the Texas Stars after returning from an injury that kept him sidelined for the first 45 games of the campaign.  

200 – He skated in his 200th AHL game on Feb. 25 against the Milwaukee Admirals, a team he competed for during the 2021-22 season.  

2 – Collected two points on March 2 against the Rockford IceHogs. He later bagged goals in consecutive games from March 2-4. From April 13-17, he scored three goals in a two-game span. 

4 – He amassed four multi-point games, which included a career-tying two-goal output on April 17 at the Iowa Wild.

2 – Tied a career high with two game-winning goals, previously set during the 2021-22 season with Milwaukee. He scored the game-winner on March 16 against Iowa and on April 13 at Chicago. 

3 – Enjoyed a three-game point streak from March 2-8 (2-2—4)

150 – Registered his 150th AHL point with an assist on March 15 against the Iowa Wild. He now has 163 points (67-96—163) in 223 AHL appearances.  

7 – Notched a career-high seven-game point streak from March 15-29 (4-5—9), beating out his previous best of a six-game run from Dec. 3, 2021-Feb. 2, 2022. 

18 – Finished the regular season with 18 points (10-8—18) and 18 penalty minutes in 26 games with the Griffins. His 18 penalty minutes were the most since the 2018-19 season with the Ontario Reign (32). 

27 – Skated in first playoff game for the Griffins on April 27 at the Rockford IceHogs.  

24 – Recorded his first point during the 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs on May 24 with an assist against the Milwaukee Admirals. He finished the postseason with one point in five contests.
