2023-24 Player in Review: Jonatan Berggren

Right wing Jonatan Berggren skated in his third season with the Griffins and led the team in points (56), goals (24) and assists (32) in 53 regular-season games. He then went on to pace the team in points (10), goals (5) and assists (5) in nine postseason outings. Berggren participated in his first AHL All-Star Classic and now has a combined 127 points (49-78—127) in 130 career AHL contests from 2021-24. The 23-year-old also suited up for 12 games with the Detroit Red Wings and totaled six points (2-4—6) and two penalty minutes.

By the Numbers 

1 – Ranked first on the team during the regular season in points (56), goals (24) and assists (32) in 53 games. He then went on to pace the team in points (10), goals (5) and assists (5) in nine postseason games. 

50 – Collected his 50th AHL assist on Nov. 1 at the Cleveland Monsters.    

250 – Skated in his 250th game as a pro on Nov. 10 against the Toronto Marlies. 

100 – Appeared in his 100th game as a Griffin on Jan. 10 against the Milwaukee Admirals. He later bagged his 100th point as a Griffin on Jan. 26 against the Belleville Senators in just his 106th game, marking the seventh-fastest player in franchise history to reach 100 points.  

5 – Participated in his first AHL All-Star Classic on Feb. 5 and totaled three points (1-2—3) in three games.  

200 – Registered his 200th point as a pro during his 285th game on Feb. 10 against the Manitoba Moose.

300 – During his 300th pro game on April 3 against the Chicago Wolves, he posted a hat trick and an assist to cap off a four-point night.  

27 – Made his Calder Cup Playoffs debut on April 27 at the Rockford IceHogs, scoring the overtime-winner.   

13 – Scored another overtime game-winner in Game 3 of the Central Division Semifinals on May 3 versus Rockford, becoming the first Griffin and just the 13th player in AHL history to score two overtime goals in a single playoff series.  

5 – Went on a five-game point streak (3-3—6) from April 27-May 15 to begin his AHL postseason career.  

3 – Showed three points (2-1—3) in a must-win Game 4 of the Central Division Finals on May 24 against the Milwaukee Admirals. 

2 – Went 2-for-6 in shootout attempts, scoring his first AHL shootout goal on Feb. 9 against the Manitoba Moose.

4 – Enjoyed a four-game point streak with the Detroit Red Wings from Nov. 12-Dec. 27 (2-2—4). 

14 – Tallied 14 multi-point outings throughout the regular season, including a season-best four points (3-1—4) on April 3 against the Chicago Wolves. He added two multi-point games during the postseason. 

3 – Logged three points in back-to-back games from Jan. 26-27 against the Belleville Senators (3-3—6).  

9 – Accumulated a team-high nine-game point streak from Feb. 24-April 5 (8-7—15). 

3 – Recorded his first-career hat trick on April 3 against the Chicago Wolves during a four-point night. 

4 – Went on a career-high four-game goal streak from March 3-April 5.

5 – Tied a career-best five-game assist streak from Nov. 24-Dec. 5, which tied for the team high. 

14 – Fourteen penalty minutes on Dec. 20 at the Texas Stars and on March 2 against the Rockford IceHogs set a new career high for a single game. 

2 – Scored consecutive game-winners from Jan. 24-26. 

4 – He registered four power-play goals and four game-winners throughout the regular season. He added four more game-winners during the postseason. In the five playoff wins for the Griffins, Berggren scored the game-winner in four of them. 

58 – Fifty-eight penalty minutes in the regular season set a new career high.
