2023-24 Player in Review: Hunter Johannes

Left wing Hunter Johannes joined the Griffins on an amateur tryout on April 3 and appeared in six regular-season games, showing four penalty minutes and a minus-one rating. He made his pro debut with Grand Rapids on April 5 against the Rockford IceHogs. Johannes then suited up for one contest in the postseason, making his Calder Cup Playoffs debut on May 22 against the Milwaukee Admirals in Game 3 of the Central Division Finals. 

The 25-year-old spent the majority of the season with the University of North Dakota during his fifth and final year of NCAA eligibility. With the Fighting Hawks, Johannes posted 19 points (12-7—19), 29 penalty minutes and a plus-10 rating in 31 appearances, collecting the NCHC regular-season title. Johannes reached the NCAA Regional Semifinal but fell 4-3 to the University of Michigan.

By the Numbers 

5 – Made his pro debut with Grand Rapids on April 5 against the Rockford IceHogs.

9 - Became the ninth player from the University of North Dakota to suit up for the Griffins. 

1 - The first player from either American International College (2019-22) or Lindenwood University (2022-23) to play for the Griffins.

3 – Enjoyed two, three-game point streaks this season from Nov. 17-24 (1-3—4) and from March 16-29 (3-0—3).  

2 – Notched three multi-point outings on Oct. 13 against Army (2-0—2), Nov. 17 versus Miami of Ohio (1-1—2) and on Jan. 6 against Alaska (2-0—2).  

3 – Season-high three-game assist streak from Nov. 17-24.  

3 – Finished his collegiate career by scoring a goal in his final three games from March 16-29.
