2018-19 in Review: Turner Elson
2 – Completing his second season in Grand Rapids, Elson has compiled 60 points (27-33—60), a plus-24 rating and 129 PIM in 129 games as a Griffin.
2 – Alongside Colin Campbell, Elson was one of two Griffins this season to record both a power play and a shorthanded goal.
3 – A key member of the penalty kill unit, Elson led the team with three shorthanded goals and was responsible for 75% of the club’s shorties. His three SHG tied for eighth in the AHL and tied for fifth in the franchise’s all-time top 10 for a single season.

72 – Elson skated in a career high 72 GP during the regular season, which tied Dominik Shine and Dominic Turgeon for the most on the team, and surpassed his previous best of 63 (set in 2015-16 with Stockton). Including the five more he suited up for in the Calder Cup Playoffs, Elson’s 77 GP tied Shine for the most of any Griffin in 2018-19.
80 – Continuing the trend, Elson logged a career-high 80 penalty minutes, which also placed third on the Griffins. He had never tallied more than 60 PIM in a season, with his previous high at 59 (2015-16 with Stockton).
100 – While playing in his 250th AHL game during a 4-3 overtime win at Chicago on Nov. 24, Elson scooped up his 100th AHL point on his second-period shorthanded goal.
300 – Elson played in his 300th AHL contest on April 5 at San Jose (1-3 L).
4 – While playing in all five Calder Cup Playoff games, Elson tied Matt Puempel for the team lead in points with four (2-2—4).
4 – On two occasions, Elson matched his career high with a four-game point streak. He picked up six points (2-4—6) during a four-game run from Nov. 10-17 and seven points (3-4—7) from Nov. 28-Dec. 5.
39 – In his sixth professional season, Elson established new career highs with 39 points, 18 goals and 21 assists. His previous high total in points was 30 (reached twice previously and most recently during the 2015-16 season with Stockton) while his previous best in goals was 17 (2014-15 with Adirondack) and assists was 16 (2015-16 with Stockton).
