2018-19 in Review: Matt Puempel
1 – Puempel tallied his first goal as a Red Wing, and 11th career in the NHL, during Detroit’s 4-1 loss at Pittsburgh on April 4.

3 – In his sixth professional season, he banked 20 goals or more for the third time in his AHL career and in back-to-back campaigns after scoring 23 in 2017-18. Puempel’s 24 goals placed second on the team and were his most since netting a career-high 30 in 2013-14 with the Binghamton Senators.
4 – Puempel’s four points (2-2—4) in the postseason tied Turner Elson for the most on the club.
8 – The 6-foot-1, 205-pound winger notched a team-high eight power play goals and has 17 in his career as a Griffin.
16 – Puempel paced the Griffins with 16 multi-point games, which included four two-goal outings. He notched a season-high three points (1-2—3) during a 5-2 home win against Belleville on Jan. 12.
27 – Puempel scored 27 of his 50 points at Van Andel Arena (12-15—27), ranking third on the team, and 23 points on foreign ice (12-11—23), placing second on the club.
40 – He became the 40th player in franchise history to record 100 or more points in a Griffins uniform following a two-assist effort on March 8 vs. Iowa. Puempel was the 10th fastest to reach 100 points, doing so in his 111th game.
177 – Puempel became the 177th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL when he made his Red Wings debut on March 23 at Vegas. He finished with three shots in 8:03 of ice time during Detroit’s 3-2 overtime victory. Originally drafted 24th overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Puempel has played in 87 career NHL games between Ottawa (2014-17), New York Rangers (2016-17) and Detroit.
225 – Puempel ranked fourth in the AHL with 225 shots. His team-high 225 shots were the fourth most in a single season in team history since 2011-12. Puempel fired a season-high 10 shots on Feb. 15 vs. San Antonio.
250 – He skated in his 250th AHL game on Nov. 24 at Chicago. In his AHL career, Puempel has suited up for Binghamton (2011-16), Hartford (2017-18) and Grand Rapids.
In his second season in the organization, left wing Matt Puempel tied for second on the Griffins with 50 points in 62 games and scored one goal in eight appearances with the Red Wings.
