2018-19 in Review: Filip Larsson

2019 – Larsson had a decorated freshman season at Denver, which turned out to be his first and only year on campus. Despite missing nearly all of the first two months of Denver’s season due to injury, he was named to the NCHC All-Rookie Team and was a finalist for the conference’s goalie of the year award. Larsson was also co-recipient of the Pioneers’ Bill Masterton Award for team MVP.

Nov. 24 – Larsson made his college debut on Nov. 24 vs. Providence College. He was named the NCHC’s Goaltender of the Month for December, his first full month of college action, and also took home NCHC Goalie of the Week honors on Jan. 14 and Feb. 4.

167 – A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Larsson was originally selected in the sixth round, 167th overall, by Detroit in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

50 – Larsson stopped all 50 shots he faced in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament to lead the Pioneers to the Frozen Four, the program’s 16th appearance in the national semifinals. He recorded 24 saves against Ohio State on March 29 and 26 saves against AIC a day later to become one of only six goalies in NCAA history to notch back-to-back shutouts in a regional tournament since the NCAA instituted the new postseason format in 2003.

0.932 – Larsson’s 0.932 save percentage placed second in the NCHC and sixth in the NCAA.

1.95 – The 6-foot-2, 188-pound netminder’s 1.95 goals against average ranked third in the conference and 11th in the NCAA.
