Jack Rummells begins his first season as the team’s biomechanist and sport scientist after serving the previous three years as the Griffins’ sports science data analyst.He oversees helping the team learn more about the recovery process, how to use sports science data to its advantage and optimizing technical efficiency for on-ice movement.
Before joining the Griffins, Rummells was a sports scientist for Driveline Baseball, the premier data-driven baseball player development organization in the world. Rummells graduated from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science before receiving his master’s degree in kinesiology. Rummells also went on to collect his PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of Iowa, where his PhD dissertation was titled quantifying biomechanical fatigue for predictive athlete modeling.
In addition to his outstanding academic achievements, Rummells was an All-American offensive lineman at UNI and joined the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League in 2015.
Rummells is a certified exercise physiologist from the American College of Sport Medicine and a certified performance and sport scientist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Rummells resides in Grand Rapids with his wife Lauren and two young sons Owen and Milo.
