
2024-25 Player in Review: Dominik Shine
Right wing Dominik Shine skated in his ninth season with the Griffins and eighth year as a professional. He logged career-high numbers in assists (32), points (46), power-play goals (5), game-winners (4), and shots (149) to go along with 14 goals, 76 penalty minutes and a minus-13 rating in 61 regular-season games. Shine ranked among the team’s regular-season leaders in points (2nd), assists (1st), goals (5th), power-play goals (T3rd), and game-winners (T2nd). The 32-year-old then tied for first on the roster with three points (1-2—3) in three Calder Cup Playoff outings. On the franchise’s all-time regular-season leaderboard, Shine now ranks third in games played (483), tied for ninth in assists (109), ninth in points (184), sixth in penalty minutes (553), tied for eighth in short-handed goals (5), tied for seventh in game-winners (12), tied for first in unassisted goals (10), and tied for sixth in shots (797).
On Jan. 27, Shine signed his first NHL contract, a two-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings, and later that evening, made his NHL debut against the Los Angeles Kings. Shine, 31, became the oldest skater to make his NHL debut since defenseman Evgeny Medvedev did it with the Philadelphia Flyers at 33 on Oct. 8, 2015, and the oldest Red Wings player to make his NHL debut since center Vaclav Nedomansky did it at 33 on Nov. 18, 1977. Shine later bagged his first NHL point with an assist on Feb. 1 at Calgary and finished the NHL season with one assist, 15 penalty minutes and a minus-one rating in nine games.
