TARDIF SIGNS WITH WINGS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday announced the signing of Grand Rapids Griffins right wing Jamie Tardif to a two-year entry-level contract.
Tardif earned his first NHL deal after appearing in all 80 games for the Griffins during the 2007-08 season. Originally the fourth pick of the Calgary Flames in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, he ranked among Grand Rapids’ leaders with 17 goals (4th), 34 points (T6th), 90 penalty minutes (3rd) and 246 shots (2nd), the last of which tied for the fifth-highest single-season total in franchise history.
The 23-year-old Tardif arrived in Grand Rapids midway through the 2006-07 season and tallied 15 points (9-6—15) in 27 games. He became just the third player in team history to score three goals in one period, netting a natural hat trick during the second frame of a 5-3 loss on March 3, 2007 at Syracuse.
Tardif, who shows 79 points (36-43—79) and 145 PIM in 144 games during his two pro seasons, captained the Peterborough Petes to an Ontario Hockey League championship during the 2005-06 campaign.
