"PUCKS FOR PLATES" RETURNS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Renewing a community relations initiative that began in 2004, the Grand Rapids Griffins have partnered with the law firm of Garan Lucow Miller for this season’s “Pucks for Plates” program.
At the Griffins’ home games tonight and Saturday against Quad City, Grandville Boy Scout Troop #292 will sell specially designed pucks that have been autographed by various Griffins and Detroit Red Wings players. The scouts, who will also sell the pucks in their community as part of their fundraising efforts, will keep a portion of the sales proceeds, while the majority will be donated to the four downtown missions – Degage Ministries, God’s Kitchen, Guiding Light Mission, Mel Trotter Ministries – to help the homeless and hurting this winter.
Pucks autographed by Griffins players Justin Abdelkader, Jonathan Ericsson, Darren Haydar, Darren Helm, Jimmy Howard or Daniel Larsson will be available for $10 each, along with a limited number of pucks signed by former Red Wings defenseman Jiri Fischer. Soon, a selection of pucks signed by current Red Wings players will be available for $20 each.
“This is a time of great need for many people in our community, and thanks to the help of Garan Lucow Miller, Grandville Boy Scout Troop #292 and our fans, the Griffins are proud to help in the efforts to keep our local food pantries and kitchens stocked,” said Bob Kaser, the Griffins’ vice president of community relations and broadcasting.
As sponsor of the “Pucks for Plates” program, Garan Lucow Miller is underwriting the cost of the pucks and purchasing Griffins tickets that will be used primarily as incentives for the top-selling boy scouts. A long-time partner in several of the Griffins’ community relations endeavors, Garan Lucow Miller is also a supporting sponsor of the team’s award-winning “Put A Lid On It” helmet safety program.
