GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. Two-time Stanley Cup champion goaltender Chris Osgood was assigned by the Detroit Red Wings to the Grand Rapids Griffins on Tuesday for conditioning.

Osgood, who has been sidelined by a groin injury since training camp, met up with the Griffins during their stopover in Detroit this afternoon and is accompanying the team on its two-game road trip to San Antonio (Wed.) and Houston (Fri.).

The 32-year-old Osgood signed with the Red Wings as a free agent on Aug. 8, 2005, returning to the franchise that selected him 54th overall in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. He played parts of eight seasons in Detroit (1993-2001), pacing the NHL with 39 wins in 1995-96, winning his first Stanley Cup in 1996-97, and back-stopping the team to its second consecutive title in 1997-98.

Osgood, a three-time NHL All-Star (1996-98), last played in the American Hockey League during the 1994-95 campaign as a member of the Adirondack Red Wings. He is scheduled to make his Griffins debut on Wednesday, when they visit the SBC Center for an 8 p.m. EST start against the San Antonio Rampage. B2 Networks live video web cast of the game will be available for $6 to anyone with a high-speed internet connection by clicking here.

In other Griffins transactions today, the team assigned forward Todd Jackson and goaltender Logan Koopmans to the Toledo Storm of the ECHL, reducing its roster to 24.
