SAN ANTONIO – Brett MacLean and Kyle Turris each scored twice to lead the San Antonio Rampage to a 7-2 victory over the Grand Rapids Griffins at the AT&T Center on Sunday.

With the loss, Grand Rapids (1-4-0-0) closed out a record five straight road games to start the season. On Friday, the Griffins will host the Abbotsford Heat for a 7:00 p.m. face off at Van Andel Arena, the start of an unprecedented three-game weekend to open their home schedule.

After a scoreless first period, the Rampage (6-1-1-0) got on the board at 2:16 of the middle frame when Turris tried a shot from the left circle, and Chad Kolarik jammed in a rebound from the left side of the net.

After the Griffins were unable to converge on a two minute 5-on-3 power play, the Rampage grabbed a 2-0 lead with an unassisted power play goal by MacLean at 8:06 of the period. MacLean picked up a bouncing puck in the Griffins’ zone, and beat Thomas McCollum with a top-shelf backhand shot.

The Griffins responded when Tomas Tatar, who made his professional debut as the youngest player in the AHL, recorded his first professional point by assisting Andy Delmore’s one-time blast from the high slot at the 8:47 mark.

Then, in a two-on-one situation, Kevin Porter sent a pass to Jeff Haggan who was wide open on the right wing side, and unleashed a wrist shot that found the back of the Griffins’ net at 10:49. Turris then pushed the Rampage lead to 4-1 at 15:13 by sneaking in a backhand shot from the bottom of the right circle. San Antonio scored their fifth goal of the second period when Joel Perrault snapped a shot into the top right corner of the net on a clear-cut breakaway at 18:50.

With 14:44 remaining in the third period, Jan Mursak made the score 5-2 when he carried the puck out of the corner and wristed a shot past Al Montoya from the high slot.

Turris notched his second goal of the night off a give-and-go feed from Kolarik at 9:53 of the third period, and Maclean added his second of the night at 13:59, finalizing the score at 7-2.

McCollum made 23 saves in net for the Griffins, and Montoya stopped 30 shots in net for the Rampage.

The Griffins look to improve their worst start in franchise history by playing 10 of their next 11 games on home ice.

Three Stars: 1. SA Turris (2 goals, 1 assist); 2. SA Boedker (3 assists); 3. SA Montoya (30 saves).
