GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings, affiliate of the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins, announced the signings of 2006-07 AHL Most Valuable Player Darren Haydar and center Ryan Oulahen to one-year contracts on Wednesday.

Haydar, 28, captained the 2007-08 Chicago Wolves to the Calder Cup championship and ranked second on the team with 27 points (12-15—27) in 24 playoff games, setting AHL career playoff records for goals (55) and points (124). The right wing posted 58 points (19-39—58) in 51 regular season games with the Wolves and logged 16 contests with the NHL’s Atlanta Thrashers, notching his first NHL goal among his eight points (1-7—8).

In 2006-07, the Toronto native was named the AHL’s MVP following a career year with Chicago, when he led the league with 81 assists and 122 points while scoring 41 goals. Haydar, who won his first Calder Cup with the Milwaukee Admirals in 2004 and has led all postseason performers in scoring on three occasions, has averaged well over a point per game during his six-year AHL career, showing 456 points (170-286—456) in 417 contests.

Oulahen, 23, is preparing for his fourth season in a Griffins uniform after serving as the team’s captain for most of the 2007-08 campaign. He appeared in each of Grand Rapids’ first 75 games before missing the final five due to an injury, setting career highs with 14 goals, 16 assists (tied), 30 points and 47 penalty minutes.

A reliable, defensive-minded forward who missed only 11 games during his first three pro seasons, Oulahen made his debut in 2005-06 as a member of the Griffins squad that captured the AHL’s Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy as regular season champions. His resume shows 76 points (34-42—76) and 109 PIM in 229 career games with Grand Rapids.
