GRIFFINS RENEW PARTNERSHIP WITH WOOD 1300
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The partnership between the Grand Rapids Griffins and their flagship station, Newsradio WOOD 1300, will extend to 14 consecutive seasons, thanks to a new three-year agreement between the American Hockey League club and Clear Channel Radio.
“Labatt Griffins Hockey,” a centerpiece of Newsradio WOOD 1300’s programming lineup since the team’s inaugural campaign in 1996-97, will maintain its current home through at least the 2009-10 season.
Next month, Bob Kaser will begin his eighth season as the Voice of the Griffins. One of the sport’s most decorated broadcasters, he earned his fifth Broadcast Excellence Award from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters last spring. WOOD TV-8’s Larry Figurski will return as the color commentator for Griffins home games, keeping in tact a broadcast team that won the Michigan Associated Press’ 2002, 2005 and 2006 awards for Best Live Sports/Class II Radio.
“We're proud and excited to continue this special relationship with a fantastic organization and great group of people,” said Phil Tower, director of programming and operations at WOOD. “The Grand Rapids Griffins and Newsradio WOOD 1300 share a common goal of creating dynamic and entertaining programming, and Griffins games on WOOD Radio are almost as good as being right behind the glass.”
All Griffins games are available via live streaming over the Internet at woodradio.com, while select play-by-play highlights from each game are archived at griffinshockey.com.
In addition to the Griffins, Newsradio WOOD 1300 serves as West Michigan’s home for University of Michigan football and basketball.
